Woods Bagot as Design Advisor to UC Merced
Campus Expansion
Expansion Area: 1.2 million GSF
After the establishment of the newest campus in the UC system, in 2005, the 2020 Project endeavors to attract a number of new faculty and students to the Central Valley. The projected growth of enrollment is expected to reach 10,000 students, thus doubling the physical capacity of the campus. The main capital for this project was through a Public-Private Partnership between the UC Merced and Plenary Properties Merced. UC Merced enlisted WT Partnership as the Project and Contract Management entity, who then took on Woods Bagot as a Design Advisor for architecture and laboratory expertise. As Design Advisor the responsibilities ranged from reviewing the Developer’s architectural proposals for compliance with the University’s mission, technical requirements and guidelines, as well as best practices in educational and science laboratory, workplace, and total campus design. The project was substantially completed in autumn of 2020.
