Woods Bagot as Design Advisor to University of California, Merced
Campus Expansion
Expansion Area: 1.2 million GSF
UC Merced was established in 2005 as the newest campus in the University of California system. The 2020 Project was initiated to attract new faculty and students to the Central Valley. The projected growth of enrollment is expected to reach 10,000 students, thus doubling the physical capacity of the campus. The capital deployed for this project was through a Public-Private Partnership amongst the UC Board of Regents, UC Merced, and Plenary Properties Merced (the Developer). UC Merced enlisted WT Partnership as the Project and Contract Management entity, who then partnered with Woods Bagot as a Design Advisor for architecture and laboratory expertise. The scope of work involved reviewing the Developer’s architectural proposals for compliance with the University’s mission, technical requirements and brand guidelines, as well as best practices in the design of enriching academic spaces, wet and dry laboratories, workplace, and total campus design. The project was substantially completed in autumn of 2020.
