The expansion of the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital was ten years in the making. The presence of the acute care hospital in the Bay Area began in 1991 with a 250,000 SF facility. Today, the hospital has become renown for the care and services it provides for patients who come from all over the United States, even the world. As part of Stanford University’s Campus, the expansion is a symbol for hope and healing without the familiar institutional tendencies. LPCH sets out to offer the latest new medical technologies to support advancements in medicine. Furthermore, its environmental goals for sustainability spread throughout the building provide visitors with various glimpses of thoughtful and responsible design. Additionally, HGA completed an intensive master plan for the existing hospital to connect and integrate the new and existing facilities.
